Drawing lines with the brush in Iranian contemporary painting is called Qalam-navazeh in a way that the structure of the line constantly becomes thin and tick. However, in most cases, the lines become so thin and they become thicker only when changes are made in the forms which we call it (Daghi).
For a better understanding of the Iranian contemporary painting, I should point out that delicate drawing is more at stake than micro drawing.
Try to employ a suitable brush with an appropriate color or ink density. Work on drawing the thinnest line possible by brush to achieve the final refinement. Be prepared to draw the lines even thinner than a single hair and avoid detaching your hand off the paper.
If you need to sketch with a pen before doing Qalam-navazeh, draw it in a very general and pale way. When you are practicing Qalam-navazeh concentrate on your design and bear in mind that you are not obliged to exactly follow what you have already drawn with pen since that would cause trembling in your Qalam-navazeh drawing.
Be careful not to hold the brush tightly in your hand, because it would make it difficult to draw the thin and delicate lines. Holding the brush loosely in your hand will enhance your maneuverability and willl add to your technical achievement.
Moreover, please take consideration of your drawing pace, which should not be so rapid or so slow, because if you do it rapidly, you will lose the feeling of the work and if you do it slowly, your lines will tremble.
In Qalam-navazeh technique note to balance the concentration of color and/or Ink both for delicate thin and short Lines as well as the long lines.
Be careful when you are drawing with the brush or pen, put your hand on the paper but don’t put the entire weight of your hand on the paper. Your hand should move on the page quite smoothly and be slippery.
Try not to look at your movement moment by moment but do it with your feeling and self-confidence.
